Porter received a red star at the end of the game for her strong defensive skills. Considering the fact that the team's first practice was 15 minutes before the game started, I think she was awesome! You will notice a couple of things. Each player is wearing colored wrist bands. There is a member of the other team with matching bands to help them learn how to guard. However...really...there is a bouncing ball and they are six...most of them were just going for the ball. The other thing you will notice is that Porter is the only girl on either team. It doesn't cause her to blink an eye. She loved it.
The best thing about this league (Upward) is that their focus is to teach the kids the skills of the sport and encourage them to love the game before they get wrapped up in "winning." AND they do it all wrapped around God's word. Porter has a memory verse each week and one of the stars awarded after the game is for being a Christlike member of the team.

I can't believe how grown up they are! I still remember holding Betsy as a little baby. Crazy.
