The Night of Fun and Challenges

So...we had a plan. I prepared a pizza (semi-homemade) for Jamie and me and fish sticks for the kids with orange slices and fresh tomatoes for sides (to avoid the ensuing chaos that we call "dinner" that stems from trying to feed my children healthier meals). Things were going well. We all had a little light ice cream (except Porter who opted for cookies). It was a special evening...there was a buzz in the air...we were headed to a Camp War Eagle Pep Rally!!!

Everyone changed into their Auburn gear; we opted not to take shakers because they have extras there. All we needed was a camera and Jack's bag (just in case...with toddlers, you never know). We parked...we walked to the stadium with little whining (an accomplishment in and of itself), and we arrived. Jordan-Hare stadium was almost empty...except for the Tiger Paws, another campus dance team and THESE horrid creatures:

Yes, that would be...the giant, the hungry and the evil Alabama mosquito! Porter had whelps on her legs within minutes. But we pushed on. We ran into the reigning Miss Auburn University, Kimberly Freind (also a biomedical sciences major and AU majorette), and she taught the girls a baton trick which they thought was VERY cool. (If I didn't fear the damage to home and person, I might drag my baton out of my closet at Mom and Dad's and bring it home. Also, I won't be posting the pictures taken of me "twirling." It's been over 17 years since I twirled a baton on a football field, and other than the fact that it makes me urp to type that, I'm really horrid!) Here are the girls showing off their new found skills:

We managed a family shot...thanks to our friend Michelle:

And here are some of our little (big) Auburn fans:

May this be the closest he ever gets to a college football field.... Oiy...my nerves!

Sadly, we didn't get to stay for the pep rally. The afore mentioned "birds" of prey were eating us alive. So, as typical to life with three kids, things didn't go exactly as planned, but we still had a good time!
